Every province and territory in Canada licenses collection agencies.  In every one of these jurisdictions a collection agency is defined as a firm that collects unpaid accounts owing to others.

In three provinces--British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario--the definition of collection agency has been broadened to include debt buyers.

The following jurisdictions permit online searches to confirm if a specific company is licensed in that jurisdiction as a collection agency.

Please note that on some, but not all, of these webpages, you may be asked to choose "collection agency" licenses from a drop down menu prior to searching a specific business name.
